Janet Lee

Artist Janet Lee passed away on July 7, 2023 at age 33 due to ovarian cancer. Known for her rich colors and intricate patterns, Janet turned her challenges—early-onset intractable epilepsy and intellectual difficulties—into inspiration. She celebrated being “perfectly imperfect,” and her spirit resonated in her art and the awards she won, including the Young Inspiring Woman Award in 2021 and the NFT Superstars Award in 2022.
Her work gained international recognition, featured in both local and overseas publications. She held exhibitions around the globe, from the United States to Korea to the Philippines. She was also the owner of the Janet Lee Gallery, situated in Cheras Business Center, Kuala Lumpur, which remains operational under the stewardship of her mum, Joyce Moi.
In tribute to Janet’s enduring legacy, 50% of proceeds from the sale of her artworks and #artbeyondthecanvas items will be donated to charitable causes. Janet’s indomitable spirit continues to inspire and give back, even in her absence.
“Color as Language: The Artistic Journey of Janet Lee, the Colorist”
Janet is not just an artist; she’s a colorist, an artist whose primary medium is color itself. Unlike traditional painters who focus on capturing realistic scenes, Janet uses color as her language to convey emotion and meaning. When you view her work, you’re not just looking at a subject but experiencing a vibrant palette that speaks volumes. Her mastery lies in the interplay of hues, their saturation, and harmony, making each piece a symphony of color. Viewing Janet’s gallery is like embarking on a journey where color isn’t just an element—it’s the element.
